Melen Gelibolu Vineyards
Our Gelibolu vineyards are to be found where the Sea of Marmaa is closest to the Aegean Sea and that is at Saroz Bay. The wild vines that can still be found on the banks of the river are proof of an ancient wine culture and now, in an area where sunflowers and wheatfields have replaced the old traditions, Melen is, once more, returning some land to its original use.
The 200,000 sq. metre vineyard has a variety of soils. Loamy sand, rocky or cretaceous and arid soils all give different terroirs and as the steep slopes face different directions, a splendid variety of vine types can be grown. These include Temprenillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Gewürtztraminer, Kalecik Karası, Karalahna, Papazkarası and Bornova Misketi.
Modern viticulture techniques are used to ensure that dense planting coupled with a low yield result in high quality.
